•  Misneach means courage in Gaelic and this is a fast-moving, historical fiction of the Scottish heroine Flora MacDonald. Flora was instrumental in assisting the escape of Charles Edward Stuart, the pretender to the British throne, after the tragic defeat of Culloden. The story, which includes a bibliography, carries Flora from the Isle of Skye to her capture, a time in the Tower of London, her release, struggles as an unwanted celebrity, and eventual return to Skye where she marries and temporarily settles down. However, life drastically changes again for the well-educated Flora and she finds herself along with many in the MacDonald clan in the colonies, just in time for the Revolutionary war. Alliances change from being against King George II to supporting his predecessor, King George III. The polarization in the communities and churches of North Carolina is told and documented in this story. In opposition to Flora's philosophies, her husband and sons join the loyalists and are captured in their first skirmish with the patriots. Their homes are vandalized and burned. Flora and her daughter are able to escape with the help of a racially mixed woman bound to join her own husband who is in the Ethiopian Back Brigade in New York. After New York, Flora MacDonald makes her way to Nova Scotia where her husband and one son are assigned at Fort Edward. The story continues including family dynamics, illnesses, and deaths of children during war and famine. It does not whitewash any atrocities carried out by England against Scotland nor the inhumane treatment of prisoners of war who were sold as slaves to the colonists. All is documented in the bibliography. Eventually, Flora leaves her husband and son in Nova Scotia and returns to the Isle of Skye.

• The story of Charlie is told from the viewpoint of her eight foot tall guardian angel Zelda, and the wee voices of wisdom in her head, Ambrose & Winslow. It is at times funny, irreverent and at others a tear jerker.  K.L. Huntley’s objective in writing the story, which is semi autobiographical, is to encourage the many people who daily face adversities. It covers issues both entertaining and heart-wrenching from living with spouses suffering from PTSD, poverty and events beyond human control. The book illustrates the importance of education, both formal and informal and that help is available in every situation. Charlie solves multiple problems and comes out stronger and more compassionate with each event. The rag-tag stories throughout Charlie’s life weave together like a tapestry, a colorful design of a life well lived. 

• Sociopaths I've known & Loved is a story about the scars of childhood that can be hidden and sometimes may fade, but they can never be ignored. I’ve managed to hide my scars for endless, time-crawling decades.  Few people were allowed to briefly see them and fewer still knew they were even there. The ugliness not only embarrassed me, it went far beyond that. It was a shame deep inside my soul and I felt stigmatized. This is a story of brainwashing and survival, of successful escape from a dim and demeaning environment.  It is the story of those who “got away” to live semi-normal lives. It is also the story of “allowable” deaths in our society, the great need for better medical care of our elderly and the mishandling of family estates. This is the story of a probable sociopath, her three daughters, their childhoods and the ensuing twisted outcomes that endlessly followed them. 

I grew up in Los Angeles in a household where my Father had a soft southern accent and my Mother was trying to rid herself of her Scottish brogue.  Around the age of eight, I concluded I was definitely in the wrong area and that I should be on a farm like my cousins. 

Just after I turned twenty-one I purchased land and eventually moved to the base of the Sierra Nevadas in historical Tuolumne County.  The winds changed, the pages in my personal novel turned, and I found myself in rural Montana for another adventure complete with Mountain Lions under the clothesline and bears at the mailbox. In addition to my travels, I also had dramatic career changes from the music industry, criminal law specialist, and ended up at a small K-12 School snuggled along a river in rural Montana.  

I attended the School of Hard Knocks but also managed a collection of Universities until I eventually graduated from the University of Idaho, 

Summa Cum Laude with a BS in Elementary Education. 

Since parts of my life sound like fiction I wrote A Chick Named Charlie which is told from the viewpoint of my eight-foot-tall guardian angel Zelda. 

That one is at times funny and, at others, a tear-jerker.
